Anchor Point on a clean day: three surfers on a long green right-hander north of Agadir

Surf camp near Agadir: two hostels 45 to 60 minutes from the airport

A surf camp near Agadir is, in practice, a surf camp in Tamraght or Taghazout: the two villages north of the city where the waves are, 43 and 50 km from Agadir Al Massira Airport. SurfsHUB runs a hostel in each, a driver from the hostel meets every flight, and the transfer is in the price both ways. Here is how far each hostel is, which one suits your level, what 3, 5 or 7 nights cost, and why surfers do not stay in the city itself.

From Agadir airport to the surf camp: the distances and the transfer

Agadir Al Massira (AGA) is the airport, about three and a half hours from the UK. From the terminal the road runs around the city and up the coast: 43 km and 45 to 55 minutes to our Tamraght hostel, 50 km and 50 to 60 minutes to our Taghazout hostel. A driver from the hostel meets every arrival at the terminal, and the return transfer on departure day is in the price too, for every package at both hostels; send us your flight number after booking and the pick-up is planned around it. Do not book a taxi.

Marrakech (RAK) is the alternative, with more routes from more airports and then about three and a half hours by road; we arrange that transfer for a supplement if you tell us at booking. The two hostels are 8 km and fifteen minutes apart, and the hostel van runs between them and to the surf spots at no charge.

The driver is there whatever time you land, midnight included. Our guide from Agadir airport to Tamraght and Taghazout walks through that arrival, from the driver waiting in the arrivals hall to the drive up the coast.

Which hostel for which level

Pick the hostel by the waves you will surf, because the coach drives to the spot that suits your level each morning and the hostel decides how long that drive is. Tamraght, the quiet village, has the two softest waves on this coast eight minutes away in the van: Devil's Rock, a sand-bottom beach break with a channel where first lessons happen, and Banana Point, a long slow right off the river mouth where a beginner rides for longer than anywhere else nearby. It is the hostel for a first week, for a family with children from 10, and for anyone who wants early nights; our Tamraght travel guide covers the village beyond the beach.

Taghazout, the point village, has Panorama five minutes on foot, Hash Point ten and Anchor Point twenty-five along the coast road, with cafés on the slipway and a livelier evening. It is the hostel for intermediates and up, and for beginners who like some life around them and do not mind that on bigger days their lesson drives twelve minutes south to Banana Point; our Taghazout travel guide covers the village, the food and the day trips. Cannot decide? A stay can be split between the two hostels, at least 2 nights in each, and Taghazout vs Tamraght goes through the choice in detail.

The price covers the bed in a shared room, the daily surf trips with coaching in groups of up to eight per coach, board and wetsuit for the whole stay, breakfast, lunch and dinner, daily yoga and the airport transfer both ways. A private room is €20 per room per night. From 5 nights a full excursion day is in too: Paradise Valley, Souk El Had and an argan-oil village, in place of that day's surf trip. Any length from 3 to 28 nights, arriving on any day, is priced the same way on the booking page, and from five people 5% comes off the total. You pay a 15% deposit by card and the rest in cash on arrival, in euros or dirhams; everything comes back if you cancel more than 14 days before arrival. The Imsouane day trip at €40 per person, flights and insurance are the only things outside the price. Those figures are taken apart line by line in the price of a surf camp in Morocco, which also sets the stay against a hostel bed with lessons bought by the session.

Agadir as a day out

Agadir is half an hour south of either hostel, about 17 km from Tamraght and 24 km from Taghazout, and worth one afternoon. Souk El Had is the reason: one of the largest covered markets in the country, thousands of stalls of spices, argan oil and ceramics, half a day if you let it. From 5 nights it is part of the excursion day, with Paradise Valley and the argan-oil village on the same loop. Agadir is also where the shops that sell alcohol are, since Tamraght sells none and Taghazout little, and where the nearest hospital is.

Why surfers do not stay in Agadir city

The city beach is a resort beach: its wave is small and a summer thing, the schools on it teach the pop-up in whitewater, and that is the end of what it offers. The surf spots start north of the city: Anza first, on the way out, then Devil's Rock, Banana Point and Crocro at Tamraght, then Panorama, Hash Point and the points at Taghazout, and on to Imsouane, 80 km of coast with more than a dozen named breaks. A surf camp in the city would drive you up that road every morning and back every evening, which is why the camps are in the villages and why ours are too. The guide to the surf spots from Agadir to Imsouane lists them in the order you pass them, with the level and the months for each.

Booking a surf camp near Agadir

Choose the hostel and your level on the booking page, pick any arrival and departure dates from 3 nights, and pay the 15% deposit by card; the written confirmation arrives within minutes with the hostel address and the pick-up plan. The pages for our Tamraght surf camp and our Taghazout surf camp describe each hostel room by room, and the packages page lists every inclusion, stay by stay, day by day. Children come from age 10 and count as beginners; a partner who does not surf is quoted by email before you book.
